Job & College Readiness Tips

Employment can feel like a long way off, but before you know it, you find yourself at the point of looking for a job. There are community resources to assist you. One of the main places that disabled people go is to Vocational Rehabilitation, which has locations across the State of Minnesota. You can contact them to start working with a provider on your employment goals when you feel ready to look for a job. There are providers to choose from and you can meet with a Vocational Rehab counselor to learn about your options. You may be on a waiting list, depending on how many other people are ‘in line’ and based on your disability. Some ‘job seekers’ go through an assessment process and some move right into a job search. It depends on your needs. The Youth Legacy Foundation can assist you with preparation before your job search, such as finding volunteer opportunities and other activities to put on your resume. Contact us by reaching out to our director Bridget Siljander at bridget@youthlegacyfoundation.org or call 612-293-7008. We focus on middle school and high school youth and we can work with you to develop a plan of action to prepare yourself. It makes all the difference when you get to the job search or want to apply to college when you have proven yourself with activities already. Check out our home page for more resources. Good luck!
