Youth Story: Abby Donkers

Hi my name is Abby Donkers. I am 17 years old and I have Spina Bifida. I have had many amazing experiences that I would have never had if I didn’t have my disability. I am very active with the Courage Center where I play wheelchair basketball. I have met many amazing friends through being involved and I wouldn’t trade them for anything. I also am very active with 4-H and FFA where I show sheep. Through all these amazing opportunities I have learned a lot about myself and who I want to be. These experiences have made me a stronger person and taught me to never give up when things get tough. They have also taught me a lot about leadership and responsibility. My parents also play a huge role in how I am today. They are amazing. They make the hard situations that we go through easy. They are my everything. We get through everything together. Without them I wouldn’t be the person I am today. I have learned how to become more of a leader through my experiences and to never give up. Never say you can’t because you can! You can do anything as long as you set your mind to it. Everyone has a purpose. You just have to believe that you can.
