Employment First Tweet Chat on Thursday, September 26 at 12 pm EST!

The APSE Public Policy Committee will be hosting our monthly Employment First Tweet Chat on Thursday, September 26 at 12 pm EST!

Special guest Dr. Bryan Dague, VT APSE Board Member, will be joining Ron Reeve, National APSE Board Member and Public Policy Committee Member and Ryley Newport, National APSE’s Public Policy Associate, in our monthly Tweet Chat at #employmentfirst

This month we will be holding a special Tweet Chat to discuss organizational change from facility-based to integrated community-based employment services. As the Employment First movement continues to expand, there is still a lot of work that needs to be done to improve integrated community-based employment outcomes for individuals with disabilities, including those with complex disabilities. In an effort to encourage dialogue with our members (and those across the field) we invite you to share your accomplishments, challenges, and ongoing efforts to move the Employment First movement forward!

As many of you know, Vermont APSE is holding the 7th National Organizational Change Forum entitled A Time for Change: Sheltered Workshop Conversion on October 22-23rd. In preparation for this event, Vermont APSE Past President, Bryan Dague, Ed.D. has agreed to join us! Bryan has extensive experience in the conversion of sheltered workshops to community-based employment in Syracuse, New York as well as in Vermont. He completed his dissertation entitled Sheltered Employment, Sheltered Lives: Navigating the New Realities of Community Employment” focused on the last sheltered workshop in Vermont and the impact the conversion had on the families and participants.

APSE’s Tweet Chat is intended to allow for participants to have an opportunity to share their feedback about crucial developments around the country that will help to drive innovation in employment. We will focus on practical strategies for shifting an organization’s service delivery model from sheltered to integrated employment. We welcome anyone and everyone to join us this Thursday to share your thoughts and any recommendations so that we can continue to improve our policies and practices around the country!

If you have not had the chance to attend, please take advantage of this opportunity to set up a Twitter account and join in on the conversation! Although you do not need a Twitter account to attend, please take a few minutes out of your day to join in and see what is being discussed from your colleagues!

Our Tweet chat will provide an opportunity to learn more about ways to utilize Twitter in the Employment First movement!
